Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre

Delicious cuisine paired with live theater: I don’t ask much more of an evening’s entertainment. Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre delivers this and more.

Situated on the South Carolina border alongside Augusta, Georgia, sits Fort Gordon, a military installation with hands-down the best dinner theater in the state (and I’ve been to a dozen or more).

From elaborate sets to spot-on acting, the shows surpass traditional community theater. And the culinary options are a cut above the mass dining I’ve seen at similar shows. The roast I had was so tender that it didn’t stay on my plate long enough to be photographed… and I don’t even typically care for meat.

When you go, you also know you’re supporting something meaningful.

“We have great support for our music and theater program here at Fort Gordon: from the installation and garrison command groups, MWR leadership and the local community to participants and patrons,” said Steve Walpert, Fort Gordon Entertainment Program director. “All recognize the value of our effort, not only for the patrons who attend, but also for the participants who find this type of recreational outlet a real morale boost.”

The theatrical lineup tends toward comedies — with a thriller or musical thrown in on occasion. If you’re lucky, go to see Holmes — the real Holmes — who returns periodically for clever stage mysteries played out with perfect precision, and you won’t disappointed.
